Poverty and Disadvantage Factors that Affect Children and Young People in Orkney

Voluntary Action Orkney (VAO) is Orkney’s Third Sector Interface delivering a range of consultative and practical services to support and develop community, voluntary, social enterprise and volunteering activities – the Third Sector.  In addition VAO ensures that third sector interests are represented in a range of partnerships.

In collaboration with The Orkney Childcare and Young People’s Partnership VAO is seeking to commission a study to:

  • Identify what poverty and disadvantage means to children and young people living in all areas of Orkney
  • Determine how providers of services to children, young people and families can act to mitigate any adverse impact associated with growing up in Orkney.

Whilst there is a wide body of relevant research on this topic the study should focus specifically on the identification of the most prominent poverty and disadvantage factors that affect children and young people in Orkney.

It is expected that the successful tenderer will have experience of the unique environment within Orkney and will have a successful track record in the delivery of high quality results.

Copies of the brief should be requested from enquiries@vaorkney.org.uk

Expressions of interest should be submitted by 5.00 pm Friday 18th August 2017 and proposals should be submitted by 5.00 pm Monday 4th September 2017 to Gail Anderson, Chief Executive, Voluntary Action Orkney, Anchor Buildings, 6 Bridge Street, Kirkwall, KW15 1HR.
