Orkney Library and Archive Needs Volunteers

Every year Orkney Library and Archive have visitors who ask about relatives or ancestors who they know have been stationed in Orkney. It is with this in mind that the Wartime Service Personnel Database Project was set up..

Orkney Library and Archive are looking for people with basic computing and typing skills to help with the project. The role will involve searching the archive computer database for archive items, making database entries of all service personnel mentioned in the items and including the archive references.

Ideally the volunteer would need to have an interest in history, can read copperplate handwriting (or have a go at least) and won’t mind a repetitive job.

The volunteer will give a few hours a day once or twice a week.
