Disability Benefits and You

The Scottish Government are visiting Orkney on 22nd August to ask people their views on disability benefits. Ideally, the Scottish Government would like to hear from individuals who have experience of the current system, their family, carers and organisations who support them.

Three Disability Benefits will transfer from the Department of Work and Pensions to the new Scottish social security agency (Social Security Scotland) over the next few years. These are:

•          Disability Living Allowance for Children from Summer 2020

•          Attendance Allowance in 2021

•          Personal Independence Payment from early 2021

When the benefits transfer, their priority is ensuring that people continue to be paid the right amounts on time and are keen to make improvements where they can.

On the day, they will talk through the current proposals and improvements that are already being made, but importantly – they are keen to hear from you. Your experience of the current system, your views on the proposals for change including whether there is more that they can do to ensure delivery of these benefit to work for you and your communities.

A session will be held in the Garden Room, King Street Halls on Thursday 22nd August between 11am and 2pm. Lunch is provided.
