Volunteering Opportunities

VAO act as a link between people who want to volunteer, and groups that need volunteers.  We list volunteer opportunities from local, national and international organisations so there’s something for everyone!   You'll find all the opportunities listed on our summary - from Age Concern to Zerowaste, and everything inbetween.

If you spot something you like, contact VAO for full details or go to I want to volunteer page.

ONE OFF OPPORTUNITY - Firth Youth Club

We needs funds in order that we can continue. We have the opportunity to do bag packing at Tesco on Saturday 27th July 2013 and are urgently in need of volunteers to help on the day, as core group members are on holiday.

We would be profoundly grateful if we could obtain the help of some adult volunteers, so that the youth worker in attendance on the day isn't on his own.

The Learning Link - Adult Literacies Tutor

Adult Literacy Tutors help adults wishing to improve their reading, writing, spelling, maths and computer skills.  The adult students who come to us for help are highly self motivated and want to learn.  It takes great courage to ask for help.

You do not need to be a teacher yourself - a competent level of education, the ability to encourage and respond to your adult student and a sense of humour is all it takes! Tutors would be expected to have up to a Higher Level of education in either Maths or English.

All students have very varied needs.  Each individual requires a programme of study that matches their interests and ability.

If you're interested in making a real difference to someone's life - this is THE opportunity for you.
