Our Befriending Service is offered to an older person aged 60 years plus to help reduce loneliness and social or geographical isolation. It is a relationship between a volunteer and a befriendee that is initiated, supported and monitored by the Adult Befriending Service.
None, but we do ask for two references and we also undertake a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check.
Yes, you will be required to attend two 4-hour training sessions. The training is very informal and fun.
It is necessary to give you an insight into how the Befriending Service works and what’s expected from you. It will give you the confidence to undertake your new role.
You’re never expected to stay in a match that you are not happy with. We would support you in resolving any difficulties with the match or finding another match. As a volunteer you are very well supported. We operate an open-door policy as well as regular support and supervision sessions.
Yes, you can claim for mileage and expenses.

Pamela Scott, Co-ordinator, has overall responsibility for the service: supports the team on the day to day operation of the service; undertakes development work for the scheme; and secures on-going funding.
Kasia Barnett, Development Worker, main focus 1 to 1 matches, Group Befriending and Intergenerational Befriending.
Kathy Potts, Development Worker, main focus 1 to 1 matches and Group Befriending.
