FAQS

What is 1 to 1 befriending?

Our Befriending Service is offered to an older person aged 60 years plus to help reduce loneliness and social or geographical isolation. It is a relationship between a volunteer and a befriendee that is initiated, supported and monitored by the Adult Befriending Service.

What experience do I need?

None, but we do ask for two references and we also undertake a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check.

Do I have to complete training?

Yes, you will be required to attend two 4-hour training sessions. The training is very informal and fun.

Why do I need training?

It is necessary to give you an insight into how the Befriending Service works and what’s expected from you. It will give you the confidence to undertake your new role.

What happens if I don’t get on with the person I’m matched up with?

You’re never expected to stay in a match that you are not happy with. We would support you in resolving any difficulties with the match or finding another match. As a volunteer you are very well supported. We operate an open-door policy as well as regular support and supervision sessions.

Can I claim expenses if I take my befriendee out for a trip?

Yes, you can claim for mileage and expenses.
