Orkney Disability Forum (Dial a Bus)

Dialabus has been in contact with the CV mutual help group that recently formed on Facebook to help people who may be self-isolating. We are now offering to be a telephone link between people who need help and volunteers in their area. We realised that so many older and more vulnerable people do not have access to a computer or just simply don’t use Facebook and felt there was a need to try and assist. With social distancing, Dialabus phones are quiet but we still have staff on duty and so we thought this was an opportunity to deploy them to do something worthwhile. If anyone is self-isolating and needs some assistance, they can ring our office on 871515 and we will take their contact details and note what they need and pass it onto the coordinator for their area. This can be used for a whole host of things including picking up prescriptions, getting messages, picking up paperwork or if you just need someone to give you a call. Staff will be on duty during normal office hours but outside those, you can leave a message on our machine. This will be picked up regularly and so no one should be stuck for long periods

Orkney Rape & Sexual Assault Service (ORSAS) SCIO

ORSAS have made the decision, in order to protect staff, volunteers and people accessing our service, to suspend face to face support and close our Equality Hub at 26 Bridge Street, Kirkwall KW15 1HR. Our staff will work remotely and offer telephone, text, IM and video conference support to survivors who are already accessing support. Our social media will continue to update our followers on service and other community information.
