The Royal National Lifeboat Institution's Kirkwall lifeboat "Margaret Foster" is an all weather Servern class lifeboat crewed by volunteers from the Kirkwall area. Her area of coverage includes all the northern isles of Orkney out to 50 miles offshore. The lifeboat is tasked by the Coastguards to launch and rescue casualties at sea in all weathers at any time of day and at any time of the year. Kirkwall lifeboat currently have 22 crew on call all supported by a Lifeboat Operations Manage and 4 deputy launching authorities.
