Shapinsay Development Trust aims to ensure the future of the resilient island community in Shapinsay. Islanders are empowered and resourced by our work in which they are intimately involved.
Income from our community owned 900kW wind turbine supports a number of services. This includes a free to residents island-wide transport service provided by ‘EV’ our electric car and our much used ‘Out of Hours’ boat service which provides a twice nightly service between Shapinsay and Kirkwall.
The SWAP fund also offers funding to Shapinsay’s residents and groups in support of their community based actions.
