St. Magnus Cathedral is a historic, working church in Kirkwall, Orkney, known as the "Light in the North" and the most northerly cathedral in Britain. Founded in 1137 by Earl Rognvald in honor of his uncle, the martyred Earl Magnus, it is the only wholly medieval cathedral in Scotland. Constructed from local red and yellow sandstone, its Romanesque style is distinctive and it continues to hold services, weddings, and funerals today.
