The North Ronaldsay Trust aims to preserve the built and natural heritage of the Island for the benefit of the community and the public at large. These include structures such as the Old Beacon, the two Kirks, the unique stonewall dyke, the seaweed-eating sheep, flora and fauna, geological and archaeological features, and the Island's natural beauty. The Trust also promotes industry and commerce through projects such as the self-catering Cottages and Cafe at the New Lighthouse. Other activities include housing, poverty relief, help for the aged, handicapped and infirm, and the advancement of education through creative applications of technology for distance learning.
