Kirkwall Christmas Tree Festival 2021

SHARE

Kirkwall Christmas Tree Festival is taking place this weekend and will be lining the entrance to Kirkwall BID’s Winter Wonderland.

This year, the trees have taken on a slightly different form – by being wooden pallet trees instead of real trees.

The Kirkwall Christmas Tree Festival started last year by Youth Development at VAO as a project for youth groups to do during a time when not much else was going on due to Covid restrictions. It was a huge success, so although restrictions have eased, it was something that they wanted to do again, albeit slightly differently.

The groups taking part this year are: Connect, Firth Youth Club, Dounby Brownies (who teamed up with Orkney Native Wildlife Project and the RSPB for their trees), Relationships Scotland Orkney, Stromness Junior Youth Club, The Edge, West Mainland Youth Achievement Group, Youth Cafe and Ypeople.

The trees are looking incredible – all very different and all very creative, so make sure you stop and have a look at the brilliant artistic work of some of Orkney’s young people.
