Volunteer Opportunities- Covid-19 Support
26 March 2020
Voluntary Action Orkney is working closely with the Orkney Islands Council, the NHS the Third Sector and local volunteers in Orkney to support a joined-up response to COVID-19.
Covid-19 – Orkney Coronavirus Community Support Hub – A call centre to provide essential information and support to the most vulnerable people in Orkney has been established. This applies to those who are NHS shielded and also those who do not have family or existing community support and cannot get online and who are over 70, disabled, require the support of mental health services, are pregnant or receive a flu jab for health reasons.
If you are on Facebook you may have seen or heard of the Orkney CV Mutual Aid Groups that have been set up in each area (usually your parish) by local volunteers.
If you think you can help in any way and would like to volunteer for these groups please register your interest here or you can contact Sam Stringer on 01856 872 897
Or if you have information about any other organisations that are providing support to people in this crisis such as Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland’s ‘Kindness Callers’ please let us know.
Voluntary Action Orkney are currently turning our volunteer focus towards the coronavirus (Covid-19) emergency situation. As we are sure you understand, our other volunteering opportunities are currently on hold. We hope to resume to normal service when this situation ends though and we look forward to sharing our placements with you then.
