Our charity has a healthy number of 12 Trustees on it's board. We help manage and maintain the now local nature reserve of Happy Valley. The site itself is owned by others. We are looking for a secretary/administrator to support the board, chair and treasurer with minute taking, organising room bookings for meetings, circulating agenda and minutes and posting signed minutes on the website.
Managing updates on the website would be useful but not essential.
What could a volunteer gain from the experience?
We are a good bend of born and bred, as well as naturalised Orcadians dedicated to maintaining Edwin Harrold's and William Isbister's legacy for the benefit of the local community. We have a good team of characters and work well together, as well as with other community groups such as Species on the Edge, Orkney Field Club and several others. We host events and fundraise to promote our membership (66) and continue the work of the organisation. The volunteer would be able to access all of these occasions and learn and develop knowledge and experience of the diverse flora and fauna in the Russadale Valley. There have also been joint projects with St Magnus Festival and plans for further cultural events in our soon to arrive Scandinavian Tepee. Happy Valley is good for your mental health and sense of wellbeing.
Experience required
A friendly flexible approach with reasonable literacy skills, typing skills and some basic IT skills would be useful.
Travel expenses
Reimbursement expenses will be paid for materials etc. Travelling expenses would be considered on request.
Training details
We are members of VAO and recently had training for trustees and are developing an induction pack on the role and can link the volunteer to this training specifically for the secretary/admin role.
