This is a unique community owned project heavily reliant on volunteers supported by the paid posts of Heritage Manager and two Rangers.
Volunteers' main roles involve meeting and greeting visitors, explaining the lay out of the site and visitors centre, taking payment for entry, and keeping the visitor centre clean and tidy. Volunteers will also manage a small shop space selling Tomb of the Eagles merchandise. It is a cashless venue and all transactions are taken through a simple and easily operated 'Squire' system. Occasionally there will be additional roles should volunteers want to participate in archaeological events and projects.
After a trial opening in September/October 2025 visitor feedback on volunteers was extremely positive. There is a body of experienced volunteers and no one is expected to undertake anything they are uncomfortable with. There will be no expectation of working alone and there will always be one of the paid staff onsite. It is expected that that there will be at least two volunteers on duty at anytime and often more. There are flexible opportunities for half day(Am or Pm) or full days. There is a volunteer lodge and rest room for breaks.
Come and join this exciting team!
