Becoming an Intergenerational Community Connector is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in your local area. This volunteer role focuses on bringing people of all ages together, helping to build relationships, share ideas and strengthen community connections. You’ll act as a local champion, raising awareness of intergenerational work, supporting network meetings, and encouraging organisations to collaborate and share good practice.

You’ll be supported every step of the way, with training, a dedicated contact, and opportunities to connect with others across Scotland. The role also offers a chance to develop your skills, expand your networks, and contribute to shaping inclusive, age-friendly communities.

Experience required

We are looking for someone who is passionate about bringing younger and older generations together and strengthening their local community.
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of people;
-Good organisational ability to help support meetings and local activity;
-Confidence in networking and building relationships across organisations and communities;
-A genuine interest in intergenerational work and the value of connecting different age groups;
-Enthusiasm, creativity and a proactive approach;
-A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to share ideas and learn from others;
-Reliability and commitment to supporting local networks
Experience (helpful but not essential):
-Involvement in community groups, volunteering, or partnership working;
-Experience (or interest) in intergenerational projects or activities;
-Local knowledge and connections within the community.

Travel expenses

Expenses are covered for travel.

Training details

Generations Working Together (GWT) provides an induction pack and access to five short online modules (2.5 hours each) and our one day intergenerational training course.

One to one and group support is given by our two Engagement and Training Officers who will host two online meetings for all our volunteers to connect each year. Each network has a dedicated member of GWT staff who will work closely with their network volunteers.

Minimum age: 18

Frequency & commitment

Two hours on average per month.
