RNID Near You Volunteer – Meet & Greet Volunteer

As an RNID Near You Meet and Greet Volunteer, you will provide a warm welcome to people attending RNID Near You sessions across Orkney. You will chat with visitors, help them identify the support they are looking for and direct them to the appropriate service. Volunteers will accurately record the support provided and handle information in line with GDPR and confidentiality requirements, passing completed paperwork to the RNID Co-ordinator for processing. In addition, volunteers will be trained to provide information and signposting to people with hearing loss, tinnitus and people who are deaf, helping them access relevant support and local services.

Experience required

No previous experience is required, as full training will be provided. We are looking for friendly, reliable and empathetic people with good communication and listening skills who enjoy meeting and supporting others. Volunteers should be dependable, willing to follow volunteer guidelines, health and safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements. We also value people who are inclusive, work well with others, support fellow volunteers, and share ideas and feedback. Most importantly, we are looking for people who want to make a positive difference in the lives of local people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus by helping them access the information and support they need.

Travel expenses

Travel expenses incurred while carrying out your volunteering role will be reimbursed in line with RNID's volunteer expenses policy.

Training details

You will receive a comprehensive induction and ongoing support to help you feel confident in your role. Volunteers complete essential training in safeguarding, data protection, equality and diversity, and health and safety. You will also receive training on welcoming and supporting visitors, confidentiality and GDPR requirements, recording volunteer activity, and providing information and signposting to people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. Throughout your volunteering journey, you will receive ongoing guidance and support from your RNID Near You Coordinator, who will be available to answer questions, provide advice, and help you develop in your role.

Frequency & commitment

Weekday mornings and weekday afternoons. 3 hours per month - ongoing.
