We’re looking for new Trustees — and you don’t need to be a museum expert!

Stromness Museum is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the next chapter of this much-loved local museum.

We particularly welcome applications from people whose voices and experiences are currently under-represented in our governance.

Experience required
We’re looking for people, not just CVs.
You might have experience in business, finance, fundraising, marketing, communication, education, heritage, tourism, digital, community work or governance. Or you might simply bring curiosity, good judgement, useful connections and a passion for what makes Stromness and Orkney special.
You don’t need to have been a Trustee before. You don’t need to work in museums. And you don’t need to know everything about Orkney’s history.
What matters is that you’re willing to listen, contribute, ask questions, share ideas, and work with others to help the Museum thrive.
Travel expenses
This is a voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed
Restrictions
Minimum age: 18
Frequency & commitment
Trustees attend regular Board meetings and contribute to the strategic development and good governance of the Museum.
Volunteers (aged 12-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity. Find out more
