This half day Adult Support and Protection training, is aimed at members of the General Workforce in Orkney. This includes staff who might come in to contact with vulnerable adults during the course of their day to day roles. It focuses on developing staff skills to recognise, respond, record, report and support these adults.
This means they should be able to:
- recognise potential signs of harm and abuse
- raise an ASP referral through the appropriate route
- contribute relevant and appropriately recorded information to assessments and reports
They should have an:
- understanding of local adult protection systems
- broad understanding of trauma-informed practice
- awareness of indicators of harm — including self-harm and self-neglect — or neglectful care, and their impact on adults
- awareness of signs of conflict or stressors such as domestic abuse, poverty, substance use, homelessness and mental health issues
- understanding the importance of close listening and responding sensitively to an adult's disclosure
- understanding the importance of record-keeping, appropriate information-sharing and confidentiality, including data protection
They should know how to:
- respond to adults at risk in a supportive, trauma-informed way
- record and communicate concerns, and the actions agreed and taken
- liaise appropriately within their own agency and with relevant external agencies.
