Orkney Violence Against Women and Girls Partnership is running this full-day course delivered by the Scottish Centre for Personal Safety.

The training will provide women with practical self-defence skills alongside comprehensive theory, with plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion and tailored advice.

You will learn about:

  • the law around self-defence and reasonable use of force
  • recognising warning and danger signs
  • voice control, defensive stance
  • understanding effective strike zones
  • the use of improvised weapons
  • practical scenarios

You will also be taught

  • breakaway techniques from wrist and clothing grabs
  • escapes from strangulation
  • defence against frontal and rear attacks
  • strategies for responding to ground attacks

This multi-award-winning, empowerment-focused and trauma-informed Personal Safety course is beneficial for frontline workers or staff who may work alone or enter homes and other vulnerable situations as part of their role.
