Designed to raise awareness around mental health, self-harm and suicide prevention, this session uses Public Health Scotland animations and facilitated discussion to look at the barriers to talking about suicide. You will leave the training with the tools to have compassionate conversations.
The 3 animations cover:
Ask - Look after your mental heath:
- Gain awareness about Mental Health.
- What can negatively impact on Mental Health?
- How to protect and support your own and others Mental Health.
- What you can do if you are worried about your own or others Mental Health.
Ask Tell - Have a healthy conversation:
- Explain what ALERT means: ASK, LISTEN,ENCOURAGE, RIGHTNOW, TELL
- Recognise when someone is in distress or thinking about suicide.
- How to start and have a healthy, non-judgemental conversation.
- Importance of listening.
Ask Tell - Save a Life:
- Describe how to talk openly abut suicide.
- Recognise your role in Suicide Prevention.
- Gain an awareness of the prevalence of suicide rates in Scotland.
- Describe what to do when someone is struggling with poor mental health or feeling suicidal.
- Be familiar with what to do if someone tells you they have an immediate suicide plan.
- Understand the importance of self- care on our own wellbeing.
