This introductory course will support trauma-informed practice when working with people who are affected by trauma and who use substances.

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Define the concept of psychological trauma.
  • Describe how substance use is used as an adaptive coping response to trauma and its impact.
  • Identify how to respond to the needs of those affected by trauma at a trauma-informed level.

The Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) commend that you complete their 'Drug Awareness - An Introductory Course' e-learning module. It can be found on their website.

SDF recognises that trauma themes can at times be challenging for participants and can cause them to reflect on their own experiences. They aim to create a safe and supportive environment by offering 2 facilitators on the course to debrief should anything arise during the course.
