Young Start offers grants of £20,001 - £150,000 for up to 3 years to organisations in Scotland that work with children and young people, aged 8 to 24.

The National Lottery Community Fund worked with children and young people to design this funding. It focuses on what matters to them and how they want to be involved.

Key Criteria

The children and young people should be able to:

  • choose when and how they are involved
  • influence and make decisions about your organisation, its activities or services

For example, they might:

  • work on a project, including the idea, design and delivery
  • decide what activities happen and how they run
  • share ideas and feedback that leads to changes
  • get involved at all levels of your organisation

To apply projects must meet at least one of these outcomes. It must help children and young people:

  • build positive relationships that improve their wellbeing
  • learn more about themselves or other people
  • take action on issues that matter to them
  • learn skills that help them feel more confident for the future
