The young people from the Orkney Youth Local Action Group (YLAG) selected, packed and delivered bags with back-to-school essentials to Stromness Academy.

This is the second time the YLAG have worked with the school to run the the free stationery stall with the first taking place last December. They were inspired by Deputy Head Teacher Rachael Wild, who set up the original stall last summer in an effort to reduce the cost of the school day for families. Mrs Wild said:

I love that the YLAG have taken my idea and run with it.

The packs contained pens, pencils, colouring pencils, USB drives, pencil cases, highlighters, notebooks and folders which had either been bought from or donated by local businesses.

The YLAG is an opportunity for young people to put money towards issues and projects that impact and benefit Orkney's young people. With the cost of living crisis continuing to affect Orkney families, by providing good quality stationery and school supplies, they are helping to keep costs at the start of the new term down.
