Amelia Brammagh and Amelie Kerr recently received their Saltire Awards for 25 hours and 50 hours respectively. They are two of five gymnasts at Orkney Gymnastic Club (OGC) who volunteer to help with regular gym sessions.
The volunteers take the register and welcome the gymnasts, before assisting with warmups and ‘spotting’ where they give physical support and guidance to help to develop skill. As a team, they conduct themselves professionally and use their own experience to give feedback and inspire the other gymnasts.
The volunteers achieve their hours on a weekly basis across a variety of different classes. As well as their regular commitments, they help run summer camps, holiday classes, the Christmas Competition and various other training opportunities.
Coach, Jos Tulloch said:
All the girls have been working hard. We hope their experience will inspire them to continue a coaching pathway, taking pride in being part of our OGC team - OGC are very grateful and proud of them - they are a huge asset.
