Building on the success of their big Live ‘n’ Loud gig in November, last month young volunteers from ROAR held The Big Orkney Quiz. The group made up of S6 pupils from Kirkwall Grammar chose to raise funds for Canine Concern Scotland.

Together they agreed on the theme and set about organising and publicising the event. They wrote questions about Orkney on topics including history, music, the isles and sport. They also planned the all important supper and secured the raffle prizes.

On the night, 10 teams from the community turned up to battle it out and find out who knew the most about Orkney. In the end Marie and the Figgy Puddings were triumphant and a total of £325 was raised for the charity.

The young volunteers are taking a break for now to concentrate on studying for their prelims. They hope to return with another event in the spring.
