In a month’s time VAO will be joining thousands of charities, community groups and voluntary organisations to celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2026. Running Monday 1 to Sunday 7 June 2026, the weeklong campaign shines a spotlight on volunteers, thanking them for their contribution and using their experience to inspire others.

We are encouraging all local groups and organisations to get involved whether it be through social media posts or getting together to take part in an activity – there are lots of ways to recognise and celebrate your volunteers.

At a recent information session, we talked about the benefits of participating in Volunteers’ Week. How working together, we can highlight Orkney’s volunteers and the difference they make. Below are links to the slides from the session and the ideas booklet we created:

The official website: www.volunteersweek.org now has a wide range of resources available to help you - there are templates for social media, bunting, certificates and more. There is also an online shop where you purchase branded merchandise.

As part of the campaign, we are launching hashtag #VolunteerOrkney to help us link, find and share posts, both throughout the week and after it has come to an end. We are asking all groups and organisations to include this in their posts about volunteering, so we can all come together to celebrate and promote volunteering locally.
