Getting involved on a committee is a great way to support a cause that you are passionate about. Becoming a volunteer trustee, director or committee/board member is both rewarding and challenging. You develop your leadership, problem solving and teamwork skills while at the same time ensuring that the group or organisation continues to exist and thrive.
You do not need to have years of experience and although professional experience can be useful, often having enthusiasm for the group or organisation, or lived experience related to its mission, is just as important.
For Volunteers' Week 2026, we have compiled a list of current local committee and board volunteer roles:
- Birsay Heritage Trust
- Connect Orkney
- John Rae Society
- Orkney Japan Association
- Orkney ZeroWaste
- Relationship Scotland Orkney
- Stromness Museum
- THAW Orkney
- Voluntary Action Orkney
- Women's Aid Orkney
