Our vision: Orkney has sustainable, resilient, inclusive communities with a thriving third sector at their heart.
The third sector is made up of community groups, charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises as well as the volunteers who give their time to support them.
We are the third sector interface or TSI in Orkney. There is one in every local authority area in Scotland.
This means we work collaboratively with third sector groups and organisations to build effective and proactive connections between them and strategic public sector partners, bringing about and enabling, positive change in our communities.
Our activities also involve the development and sustainability of local third sector activity. We do this a number of different ways, including:
- promoting community participation and support
- sharing up to date information and resources
- offering informed advice and guidance
- creating networking and collaboration opportunities

Our Strategic Plan sets out VAO’s direction for the next three years. It explains how we will support voluntary organisations, community groups, social enterprises and volunteers across Orkney, while continuing to strengthen our role as Orkney’s Third Sector Interface.
