200 HOUR SALTIRE AWARD FOR HANNAH

Hannah as been volunteering for a number of years with various organisations including Girlguiding, Save Wemyss Ancient Caves Society (SWACS) and the Scottish Crannog Centre. Hannah moved to Orkney three years ago and wanted to share her skills so offered her time as a Guide Leader – She has recently achieved her 200 hours Satlire Award in recognition of her efforts.
Hannah has a great attitude towards helping in the community:
“I started volunteering to help girls younger than me enjoy Guiding, it gave me so much so I wanted to contribute back and since then I’ve learnt to never say no to an opportunity. I know that I have inspired a lot of girls to do what they find fun.
Volunteering with different organisations and charities has definitely given me confidence to just go out there and take opportunities that are given to me. I’ve also developed my public speaking skills as well as made some life-long friends along the way. It’s surprising how quickly two hours a week builds up”
Laura Leonard, Youth Development Worker at VAO commented,
“It has been great that Hannah has been able to involve herself in the Orkney Community and share her skills and enthusiasm. Giving her time to volunteer is such a possitive thing to do – a very good role model for the younger generation.
Working in partnership with the Pickaquoy Centre to reward young people for their efforts in our community is a real bonus to the Saltire Awards programme here in Orkney and a great way to say ‘thank you!’”
